Window Tint Film — Choosing the Right VLT for Your Application

VLT (Visible Light Transmission) is the percentage of light that passes through the film. Lower VLT = darker tint. The right VLT depends on where the window is, which state you are in, and whether the vehicle is used on public roads.

If in doubt, 35% is the safest choice — it is legal on all windows including front side windows in every Australian state and territory.

Window tint for home and commercial use

For residential and office windows there are no VLT regulations — choose based on privacy and heat rejection preference. The 15% film provides strong privacy from outside while retaining reasonable outward visibility from inside. The 5% film blocks nearly all outside view and is commonly used for conference rooms, bathroom windows, and partition glass where privacy is the primary goal.

The 1,520 mm wide rolls suit standard residential windows and vehicle rear windows without joins. For automotive rear windscreens with sharp curves, use a heat gun to form the film before applying.
